Bring the Best of Science

The US President Barack Obama surprised politically aware scientists across the world, with his plans to restore science to the US government. He has assembled a high-powered scientific team in his top administration, of whose advice he will to be taking.

Mr. Obama turns out to be an example for other politicians by bringing the best of science into government and emphasizing the need for it in the decision-making based on real evidences.

A report from the Commons science committee, Britain, has pointed out the key issues related to science. It says that, any modern government needs a powerful chief scientist, with sufficient staff located close to the head of government.

The US Office of Science and Technology says that every government department should have its chief scientist and an appropriate network of genuinely independent scientific advisory committees.

Chief scientists can take the responsibility to challenge the political decisions which they feel are not justified according to science. Politicians have the right to make decisions but they must be open about to the challenges.
