What are the Effects of Drug Addiction on Relationships

Drug abuse is a process which involves excessive intake of drugs. Drug abuse shows negative effects not only on the health but it also shows effects on the family and other relationships.

Effect on family relations:
Drug abuse creates many problems in the family and it shows great effect on the family relations. Substance abusers may lead to divorce and have higher number of cases registered on domestic violence. The children of substance abusers are more likely to develop emotional issues which induces substance abuse in the children. Drug addiction also effects the health of the other family members along with the addicts. Financial problems also shows effects on the family which are caused by drug addiction.

Effects on professional relations:
According to SAMHSA, addiction damages work relationships, in that co workers are often forced to cover up for the addict's failure to share the workload. This causes resentment of the addict in the workplace. Addiction also causes low productivity at the work place which shows effects on the society.

Effects on peer relations:
Addiction also damages the relation between the friends. The addicted persons may avoid the non addicted friends in favor of those who share and endorse their addictive habits. The World Health Organization (WHO) notes that within groups of alcohol abusing friends, incidents of violent crimes are disproportionately high.
