What is Vitamin B13 or Orotic Acid?

Vitamin B13 is also known as Orotic Acid or pyrimidine carboxylic acid. It is not considered to be a vitamin because it is manufactured by the intestinal bacteria of the body. Vitamin B13 mainly used for metabolizing vitamin B12 as well as folic acid.

It also plays an important role in the body by assisting the absorption of calcium and magnesium, and other essential nutrients. It even aids in the production of genetic material(DNA).

It is used to treat symptoms of multiple sclerosis, liver conditions and other problems can be prevented. Some studies have proved that it is beneficial for treating heart attacks, slower aging, and also used in conditions such as chronic hepatitis. However enough information is not available for this vitamin.

Orotic Acid is found in plants as well as animals which include root vegetables, such as carrots and potatoes, garlic, onions, liquid whey, beef. The richest source is meat.

The people who are deficient in Vitamin B13 (Orotic Acid) may cause problems such as liver disorders, cell degeneration, premature aging, appearance of crystals in the urine, degeneration of cells, impaired immunity, anemia, lower levels of vitamin B12, heart problems, problems related to heart, increase in weight, weight gain, large and abnormal sized blood cells, skin problems, disorders within the liver, mental retardation, premature aging etc.

Recommended Dietary Allowances are not set for this vitamin because it is produced by the intestinal flora and available in root vegetables and meat.
