What is a Roof Construction?

The important part of constructing building homes or any other structures is the roof. Roof protects the interior part of the building from the windy or any other weather conditions and acts as a protective outer layer. To construct these roofs, the load-bearing walls should be in place. There are many number of roof designs are available and can be constructed using different methods that vary according to local conditions, product availability and local customs.

The main component of roof construction is achieving a suitable design. The design can be achieved using three main elements that is using of roofing materials, process of construction process, and the overall durability and cost-effectiveness of the roof for the application. These three elements decide the appropriateness of a particular roof for a given application.

Materials must be chosen based on the local climatic weather conditions for constructing the roof because the traditional thatch roofing materials of a tropical island hut would not be a suitable form of roofing material in the extreme cold and snow conditions.

While constructing, local conditions play a major part in deciding the roof. A peak with steeply pitched roofs are not well suitable for snow fall areas because the snow will shreds and covers the houses and can cause a high damage. A broad, low-peaked designed roof construction protects the building's interior from rain and causes less damage when compared to peaked roofs.

Durability, aesthetics and cost of a particular type of roof construction depends on the design process of the roof construction. Some beautiful tiled roofs look beautiful but not suitable for weather conditions. And some lesser quality tiled roofs suitable for certain weather conditions.
