What are the Causes of Stomatisis?

Stomatisis is also referred to as inflammation of the mouth. It is common among people any age-group. It affects cheeks, gums, tongue, lips, and other parts which are related to mouth. Wherever stomatisis occurs in the mouth, the person suffers from pain, redness, swelling and occasional bleeding from the affected area. Due to these conditions sometimes there may be a bad breath in the affected person.

The person having stomatisis feels discomfort while eating, taking and sleeping. It also makes the person look ugly. Stomatisis occurs because of various conditions such as poor oral hygiene, poorly fitted oral dentures or by conditions such as jagged teeth. These can even continuously irritate the oral structures.

Chronic mouth diseases, drinking beverages that are too hot and cold can also lead to irritation. It may also be because of factors  affecting the entire body such as medication, allergic reaction or infections.

Diseases, such as common cold sore, gonorrhea, measles, leukemia, AIDS, and lack of vitamin C can present with oral signs. Inflammatory bowel disease such as canker sores may be related to stomatisis. In this, the person, suffering has painful ulcers in lips, cheeks, gums, floor or floor of the oral cavity. These ulcers can range from pinpoint size to up to one inch (2.5 cm) or more in diameter.

However, there are no specific factors to account for stomatitis.  Some experts are of the view  that it occurs because of nutritional deficiencies, or exposure to heavy minerals.
