Tips to Avoid Vitamin D Deficiency

Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin which is a useful and most essential for the absorption and the metabolism of the calcium and phosphorus. As calcium and phosphorus are the essential vitamins for the growth and development of bones, unless they are absorbed and metabolized properly bones can not be formed properly. Hence, vitamin D, is also an essential vitamin.

Deficiencies of vitamin D results in diseases such as rickets, poor growth, week bones, tooth delay, children with vitamin D deficiency becomes more prone to infections and also suffer some respiratory problems. In adults it may result in aches and pains and they feel it difficult to climb the steps and to stand up for long hours. Some may also suffer bone pains in different parts of the body.

As its presence is highly important, we need to save our body from vitamin D deficiencies by providing it with foods or the sources which provide the vitamin. One of the best and the natural ways to get vitamin D is through the exposure of sunlight. You can practice some exercises like Yoga or walking in the mid-sun to cater to the body with sufficient amounts of vitamin D. Sun salutations in Yoga are one of the best methods to expose every single part of the body to the sun.

Though many practice them during the early hours, experts suggest to get exposed to sun during the mid day or the mid noon to get most amounts of vitamin D in less time. During this time the sunlight will have the maximum amount of ultraviolet B (UVB) rays which help our skin manufacture vitamin D. It is therefore, better to practice yoga during 10 am in the morning or during 3 pm in the noon to get maximum amount of D vitamin in less time. In winter, as it is hard to find the sun that high, summers are the best days to give provide your body with huge amounts of vitamin D, of which it stores and uses for the later seasons.

Taking foods like fish, egg yolk, dairy products like cheese help us get vitamin D, but not in the adequate quantities. So, the combined effect of food and exposure to sun, helps beat deficiencies of vitamin D.
